Has there ever been a time when our students’ ability to think and write analytically has been more important? Teaching students to do so may be one of the greatest challenges a writing teacher faces. How can we embrace both literature and non-fiction –and the interests of our students– to teach analysis in ways that stick with students, that transfer from topic to topic, content area to content area? We will explore the four pillars of analysis that invite challenge and passion. Build your tool box of analytical reading and writing strategies with quick mini-lessons that layer complexity to reach a wide range of ability levels. Learn revision practices that deepen students’ self-reflection, helping them analyze their own work and give meaningful feedback. You will leave with lessons, text sets, and experiences, with the confidence that you can empower students through analytical writing that will stick with them long after they leave your classroom.
All programs will be offered for two units. Participants can also elect to add a third unit by writing an “extra credit” paper.
