LGS Recreation’s Summer Enrichment School is back with new class offerings and the ones participants already love! Our program, designed and facilitated by experienced teachers from local school districts, provides young people the opportunity to keep learning during summer months through a wide-range of challenging, engaging, and fun classes!
Before School Care: Programs K-8TH: The Summer Enrichment School bell rings at 8:20 a.m. or 8:35 a.m. depending on the location. Starting at 7:00 a.m. each location offers Before School Care. As students arrive they will have the opportunity to socialize with friends and participate in low impact activities supervised by our staff.
After School Day Camp: Once the school bell rings for dismissal the fun doesn’t have to stop! We offer After School Day Camp until 6:00 p.m. to all students participating in Summer Enrichment School. Camp features: arts & crafts, healthy cooking projects, sports & games, swimming (when available), special guest visitors, and a weekly field trip! Staff to camper ratio: 1 to 12.
Camp T-Shirt: This year’s camp t-shirt must be worn by students on all off-site field trips.
Lunch & Snacks: A bag lunch and water bottle should be brought each day for this program unless the weekly calendar states otherwise. Daily snack provided.

Survivor
Lightning strikes, dead car batteries and losing your map — emergencies can happen at any time! Bringing STEM to the great outdoors, through utility of tools to working through challenging situations, learners use ingenuity to gain crucial skills such as knot tying, water purification and compass navigation. Students gather their senses, put their new skills to the test and conquer every challenge Mother Nature throws their way!
60 Seconds or Less!
Work in challenge groups to observe, test, and attempt to break the “laws” of physics by designing and building everything from rolling marbles over tape to explaining energy conservation, to understanding air pressure by making cups fly. You will learn about trajectory, displacement, force and motion, and vacuums. This is a lively, discovery/learning class. Includes all supplies. When students complete the final challenge, they will be true STEM champions!
It’s Alive Biology
Come and join us for an exploration of our living Earth as we get up close and personal with living organisms such as bacteria, insects, amphibians and reptiles. We’ll use microscopes, conduct experiments, and have hands-on experiences with cow’s eye dissections, bacteria experiments, worm races and more in this lively, discovery-learning class. Includes all supplies.
Math Quest - Problem Solving
You’ll join a group and travel through “Numberland,” “Sportsland,” “Fantasyland,” and “Dinosaurland” in search of great treasure. Use six problem-solving strategies to move along the Math Quest Map in a race to become “Einsteinians.” This will be the most interesting math class you’ve ever taken.
Public Speaking Through Storytelling
Challenged by an old storyteller to bring back his dying art, students improve their literacy and geography skills by analyzing folk tales from various cultures and ultimately writing their own. Practice speaking techniques of projection, pace, and dramatic flair. Perform before parents and guests at a culminating Folk Tale Festival.
Robotics
Students develop a strong understanding of the world of robots and programming. This robotics class is designed to be student-driven using project-based learning techniques, which builds upon skills using a combination of step-by-step projects and challenges. Students begin by learning basic robotic construction concepts followed by an introduction to programming. For the finale students will compete with their robot in a Robotic challenge.
Team Sports
Join us for a variety of team sports for boys and girls. Increase your skills in baseball, basketball, soccer, football, and more. Cooperation, sportsmanship, teamwork, and playing are the focus of this fun filled class! No previous experience necessary. The only requirements are a desire to have fun and a pair of athletic shoes.
3D Modeling and Printing
3D Printing is a method of creation that requires only some basic computer skills and a few rules of thumb. This class will allow students to discover for themselves the potential and limitations of 3D Printing through a build intensive design project. This course is an excellent option for anyone who ever wanted to prototype an invention, create a work of art, customize a product or just make something cool.
Game Creation with Minecraft
Learn to build and customize amazing virtual worlds. Explore the different roles required to develop a video game, including: programmer, game designer, architect and artist. Create maps, buildings and roller coasters to share with your peers. Get ready Minecraft™ is for game makers.
Science! Science! Science!
Science! Join us for hands-on, minds-on, science fun. This class will have something for everyone. Use teamwork, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills to explore the world of scientific inquiry and discovery!
Structural Design and Critical Thinking
Channel your inner architect as you learn how to design structures, consider stresses, and integrate mechanical actions into structural projects. Explore the impact of external forces on structures. As you build more complex structures, use critical thinking skills to increase stability and function.
Movie Critic
Do you enjoy watching movies? Learn to critique movies like a movie critic. Watch and enjoy movies from the past and present and learn to observe, compare and contrast them with a critical eye. Movies will be shown on a large screen with popcorn, just like your favorite movie theater!
Public Speaking and Debate
Students will learn the skills and techniques required for public speaking communication skills, eye contact, voice projection, body contact and listening, and evaluation techniques. Students will practice presenting various types of speeches. Development of self-confidence and poise will be an integral part of this class.
Entrepreneurs: Creating a Business Plan
Student teams will have a blast creating and running their own businesses. Work through the steps of product manufacturing, choosing a business location, and advertising. Raise money for a worthy cause while learning business management skills.
Digital Art
Students will be introduced to various means of integrating art with technology. Topics will include concept sketching, layout techniques for print, color theory and typography, and identity/ brand development. In addition, students will be introduced to the digital environment for digital arts; learning digital vocabulary and file formats primarily using Adobe Illustrator. This is a fun art class and a great introduction to Digital Arts.
Mixed Media Art Madness
Explore and work with a variety of art materials creating NEW 2D and 3D art projects. Create with art materials including a variety of drawing tools, pastels, paint, and clay, as well as print media, found and recycled items, and textiles to create cool and creative pieces of art. Learn art techniques with a variety of materials while embracing your own creative style. This is a hands-on, fun, and fast moving class for all art abilities.
Chess
Chess is a hot game! If you know a little bit about chess or nothing about chess, this is the class for you. Learn the game and meet new friends and increase your brainpower. The excitement never stops when you play chess. Get ready to level up on your chess team!
Creative Photography
Most people take photos spontaneously every day. You capture a moment in time instantly! But what if you took the time to think about your photo before you ever snapped it on your cell phone? In this class you will set up photo shoots that you might never have dreamed of! You’ll get messy with powder paint and have photography challenges where you have creative reign to setup your perfect shot. Images will be artistically displayed for the annual photography show! All you need is your cell phone camera and a creative spirit!
Creative Writing
Everyone has a story to tell, and we want to help them write it! We will help kids unleash their imaginations onto the blank page—and discover the fun that can come from writing! The course will encourage mindfulness, creative thinking, and build self-esteem in writing and literacy. Because every writer’s voice is unique, this is the class for the next great author of the world!
Math Challenges – Using Algebra and Geometry
Develop problem-solving, visual-motor, and creative thinking skills while solving challenging and fun math projects. Use algebra and geometry to design flat patterns that fold into everyday three-dimensional objects. Apply your mathematical skills to solve equations that will lead you on a race around the globe.
