In this one-day workshop we will learn all about the media beloved by generations of artists and illustrators for its matte finish and velvety application. Gouache is an ideal medium for capturing natural subjects because it allows all the spontaneity of other water media while also providing the artist with the ability to paint over or “correct” mistakes.
Students will learn about the origins of botanical painting and paint a variety of plants from photos provided by the instructor. We’ll focus on color mixing and creating depth in simple compositions so students will leave confident about the medium and how they can create their own paintings moving forward.
