Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) is all about closing the gender gap in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and research shows that gender differences in STEM interest can be responsive to family influences. Parent modeling enables girls to envision themselves in STEM roles.
SAfG, with the support of Sandia National Laboratories, designs and offers Family STEM Nights which provide opportunities to normalize the ideas of families doing science together; to empower parents who feel uncomfortable themselves in science or math; and to educate families on STEM career opportunities. There are different stations of fun, hands-on projects designed for family collaboration. There are also raffle prizes, and dinner is provided.
