What is CRB?
- A summer reading program where high-school mentors guide elementary students in personalized reading lessons and practice.
- In 7 weeks, kids see an average of 4 moths of reading growth- while having a blast.
Who can join?
- K-5th graders
- Students who can attend a 1-hour tutoring session on Zoom or in-person at the library, twice a week
- Families who can commit to a maximum of three absences
- Virtual Sessions: Students who have a laptop or tablet and access to Wi-Fi
- In-Person Sessions: Students who can come to the Oakland library locations (West Oakland or 81st Ave.).
This summer, we are offering virtual and in-person options that take place throughout each weekday. Students are asked to join twice per week (Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday) at the time they choose for 1 hour of reading support with their high-school mentor. Students will use our digital literacy platform, BookNook (https://www.booknook.com/), in their reading sessions. This platform assesses student reading levels and supplies lessons that focus on the skills they need to practice and build to meet grade-level requirements.
Students will need to get to the libraries to participate, but we will provide computers and books, so they won't need to have any other supplies to join.
