BlackBox Studios

The mission of BlackBox Studios is to provide high quality ballet training in an inclusive space in Oakland, CA. BlackBox Studios offers ballet classes in Oakland, CA from pre-ballet to Adult Ballet as well as Contemporary Dance and Modern Dance classes ages 3 to Adult.

Artists of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, gender identities, orientations, races, and body types are welcome!

The Difference

• All classes are taught by experienced teachers who are currently or formerly professional dancers.
• The teaching philosophy values high standards of training, supportive and empathetic coaching, and providing students with skills beyond dance: teamwork, discipline, hard work, and dedication.
• BlackBox Studios is body inclusive, Queer friendly, and actively works to create an inclusive space for all to dance.
• The floors are professionally sprung by Ground Control Floors and finished with Harlequin marley. These floors protect the dancer from injuries related to dancing on hard and slippery floors.

BlackBox Studios is situated by the Laurel District of Oakland, CA near the Dimond and Fruitvale neighborhoods of Oakland. Owned and operated by Theresa Knudson, BlackBox Studios offers dance classes (both in person & Zoom), private lessons, studio rental , and is home to professional dance companies Halcyon Dance Project and Ballet22.
