Second graders love to learn! They run into school each day ready to explore the world of reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and religion. It is a big year for them in so many ways…
Second graders grow in their faith through the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist, prayer, and learning how to actively participate in the Mass.
Second graders become independent readers that work hard to build their reading fluency, grammar, phonics, reading comprehension skills, and reading stamina, by reading for longer periods of time and choosing more challenging books.
Second graders write with a purpose and work to focus their ideas on one topic with interesting supporting details using the four-square method and six-trait writing steps.
Second graders learn their basic math facts of addition and subtraction by memory and build their math skills by learning problem-solving strategies, regrouping, telling time, measuring, counting money, graphing, etc.
Second graders explore the world around them in social studies and science. In both content areas, they learn more about how the world works and how to interact more conscientiously with others and the environment.
Second graders are learning how to do their personal best each day. Students learn to live the Great Commandment to love God and love their neighbor so they can show their love for God, themselves, and others each day. Second grade is a great year of learning!!
