Our History
Originally formed as the Atlanta International Museum of Art & Design in 1989, MODA (Museum of Design Atlanta) has grown and evolved over the years to become the only museum in the Southeast dedicated exclusively to the study and celebration of all things design.
In 2011, MODA moved to its current home in the heart of the Midtown Arts District. This transition has been critical to the museum’s recent success, offering premium street visibility and immediate proximity to the city’s most important arts organizations. We feature exhibits in all areas of design — such as architecture, graphic design, and more — in pursuit of bringing the MODA mission and vision to life.
We believe design has the power to inspire change, transform lives, and make the world a better place.
Mission
MODA's mission is to advance the understanding and appreciation of design as the convergence of creativity and functionality through exhibitions, education, and programming for visitors of all ages.
Vision
We pursue our mission because we envision a world that celebrates design as a creative force that inspires change, transforms lives, and makes the world a better place.
Action
The work of our staff and board of directors is structured by two research questions: “What is the museum of the 21st century?” and “Can a design museum change the world?”
MODA Members enjoy a wide variety of special perks, but our exclusive studio visits, field trips, and design tours are one of the biggest advantages. They’re perfect for connecting our members to Atlanta’s amazing design community.
