Yu Ying Summer Camp provides an excellent opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture through engaging activities in our immersion environment! Our well-rounded program incorporates outdoor activities, field trips, arts and crafts, academic enrichment, and fun activities. Using a task-based language teaching method, campers will learn and practice Mandarin Chinese through meaningful activities designed to expand their language skills. Each week's theme is integrated into our daily lesson plan. In addition to Mandarin, we include an option for Accelerated Math and Reading to enhance academic performance. Students are grouped based on their proficiency of Mandarin, from beginner level with no prior knowledge to advanced native speaker level.
Session Themes and Schedule
Mandarin Fun with Food, Market Day (Session 1 June 9-20, week 1&2)
Campers will learn to say the names of popular Chinese dishes, create a bustling DIY market using play money to "purchase" ingredients, and practice ordering food at a restaurant in Mandarin. Get ready to roll up your sleeves and get creative with hands-on cooking projects. Test your Mandarin mastery, participate in an exciting food memory game. This camp is a delicious blend of language learning, cultural exploration, and culinary fun, culminating in a vibrant Market Day where campers can showcase their skills and share their creations!"

Storybook Adventures (Session 2 June 23-July 3 , week 3&4)*
Days will be filled with exciting adventures as we explore legendary characters like Wukong,Jade Rabbit, and delve into classic stories like “Journey to the West”, “Kung Fu Panda” or “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”. Campers will learn basic Tai Chi movements to enhance balance and coordination, and discover the beauty of Chinese folk songs, accompanied by the soothing sounds of the guzheng. Combine storytelling with background music to create a more immersive experience. Engaging storytelling sessions will bring these tales to life, with campers even acting out scenes using simple Mandarin phrases.

The Great Chinese Art Exploration (Session 3 July 7-18, week 5&6)
Immerse yourself in the rich world of Chinese art forms. Learn to express yourself through vibrant colors and dynamic shapes while painting or drawing. Dive into the art of Chinese calligraphy. Discover the beauty of Chinese ink painting. Explore the techniques of traditional Chinese brush painting with landscapes, flowers, and animals as subjects. Get creative with paper fans, Chinese Paper Cutting (Jianzhi) and folding paper crafts (origami) while expanding your Mandarin vocabulary.
Art show where kids showcase their creations to family and friends
It’s A Jungle Out There! (Session 4 July 21 - August 1 , week 7&8)
Explore the wonders of the rain forests! Campers will journey into the vast untamed jungle of the Amazon rain forest. Come swim with the majestic pink river dolphin, observe colorful macaws soaring above the treetops, and search for the mysterious jaguar roaming beneath the forest canopy. Have fun learning about animal characteristics including their natural habitats, behavior, and features, through hands-on themed activities. Kids will encounter animals up close with a funny and mind-boggling show!

Travel in China: Each day a city (Session 5 August 4-7, week 9)
Transport to a different vibrant city each day. From the ancient wonders of Beijing to the bustling metropolis of Shanghai, we'll delve into the rich history, diverse culture, and fascinating traditions of each destination. Through interactive games, engaging crafts, and delicious food exploration, we'll experience the magic of China firsthand. This is more than just a camp – it's a passport to an extraordinary cultural adventure.

Entering Trans-Kindergarten or Kindergarten (no prior Chinese knowledge needed)
We pay special attention to our youngest campers cognitive, emotional, and social development while they explore the Mandarin Chinese language. Songs, games, role-play, and other creative approaches are cultivated to spark interest in Chinese and ensure campers feel comfortable during their stay at summer camp.
Grades 1-8 (no prior Chinese knowledge needed)
Summer Camp is a great opportunity for our campers to learn Mandarin Chinese language skills and Chinese culture, expand their global perspective, enhance academic knowledge and interact with peers in a diverse setting.
Possible field trip to the closest parks, library , beach etc. Availability subject to change.
