Being a Counselor or Counselor in Training (CIT) at Chalice Camp is an exciting opportunity to deepen your involvement with the children and entire community of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fresno. Chalice Camp is June 10-14, 2019, from 8:30am-5:00pm. You must be available for that entire time, and you will be asked to be here 15 minutes early each day and stay until your campers are picked up. Senior Counselors will be expected to attend an orientation and training session all day Saturday, June 8 and the afternoon of Sunday, June 9. CITs will be expected to attend the session on the afternoon of Sunday, June 9 only. There is no cost. Senior Counselors receive a small stipend for the week, and CITs receive a small gift of appreciation.
The theme this year is 'Unitarian Universalist History & Identity', following a curriculum that explores the history of Unitarian and Universalism and helps to develop Unitarian Universalist identity. Campers will be put together in groups of approximately 6 children, with (at least) one Senior Counselor (entering 10th-12th grade, or just graduated from high school this year) and (at least) one Counselor in Training (entering 7th-9th grade) for each group. Your role will be to sit with your group for the opening and closing worships and activities and to shepherd them between the morning and afternoon rotation sessions, providing leadership at the sessions. It will be your responsibility to create a sense of connection within your group and to ensure that your campers are safe and having fun. We are committed to an enjoyable, respectful, safe, and creative camp for everyone involved!
Campers will need to bring swim clothes and a packed lunch each day. Outdoor activities will be included,so sunscreen and hats are also recommended.
