Here are the lessons for Mixed Age (Age 5-16) students. The lessons for all groups are the same, but the presentation and experiments are adapted for each age group. (The lessons may not be presented in the sequence shown below because of weather or other factors.)
Candle-in-a-Jar: In our un-birthday party we will make dozens of candles drown themselves in the interest of science.
Gyroscopes – Tops: Make a spinning top and see what happens when you toss it onto a table, spin it upside-down, spin it sideways, put it onto another top (is it still a top if it’s on the bottom?), and try to spin it with a string.
Hot, Cold, and Fizzy: Mix chemicals together to see if they change colors, make weird smells, get hot or cold, or just make the zip-lock bag explode!
Wonky Balls: Anybody can knock down bowling pins on a straight bowling alley… you're going to make a bowling ball for a curved bowling alley.
Rainbow Generators: The sun makes rainbows with raindrops but can we make weird rainbows with different kinds of light and no water? Can we make rainbows with our fingers and a flashlight?
Hand Crank Generators: Discover how it feels to make electricity powerful enough to light up lights, run some motors, and ring a loud bell.
Echo Blaster: Create loud echoes and waves of all sorts with a slinky spring and two cups.
Glue: Experiment with instant glue, hot glue, epoxy, rubber glue, and spray glue to see which kind works best.
Cartesian Diver: Trick your friends with this creature that swims up or down at your command.
Sunken Raft: In this outdoor activity you’ll make boats that all weigh the same and see how many pennies it will hold before sinking.
Note:
Due to the current "shelter in place" requirements, all Spring classes will be conducted Online.
