Landscape & Figurative Painting with Darren Kerr
Personalize and add visual interest to your landscape paintings by incorporating figures. This online class will demonstrate how to shoot photo references, utilize the experience of painting from life, create dynamic landscape compositions, and improve our painting skills in the studio. We will review the visual concepts of hue/value/chroma, and learn how to recognize any colors you wish to recreate from your photos and mix them with paint onto canvas. Instructor will demonstrate different techniques to insert figures with realistic scaling and lighting into your landscape references, including Photoshop, Adobe Sketch, or old-school vellum. We will cover composition and painting techniques to maximize the impact of loosely painted figures without overwhelming the landscape. During the course each student will paint several small studies in preparation for larger finished paintings that incorporate elements from our studies.
Class will take place via weekly Zoom teleconference and will include lecture and demo, group question/answer and showcase of student work. Additionally, time will be reserved for individual instruction and feedback during group Zoom sessions and follow-up individual sessions and/or email. Each class will be recorded and available for later viewing.
