The Writing Analysis class is designed for 5th, and 6th grade students to further develop their comprehension skills by reading are variety of articles, analyzing the content and genré and then writing an essay on the content based on their analysis of the content, style and opinions expressed in the article.
This course begins with reading and discussing short stories so students can refine their reading comprehension skills. Students will then write essays analyzing characters' decisions and motivations using support from the short stories. This will require students to learn how and when to summarize, paraphrase, and quote, as well as to construct an argument. In addition, these short stories also serve as "mentor texts" so students can emulate effective authors in their own writing.
