For the past two years, Camp Upstander has welcomed campers to participate in daily
activities around themes such as embracing differences and spreading kindness. Our Museum Educators have provided age-appropriate activities, including crafts, reading, and discussion, to explore these Upstanders themes. Camp Upstander’s mission is to instill in kids the skills to become Upstanders in their community.
This year, the Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum is pleased to partner with the Aaron Family Jewish Community Center (JCC) to bring its Camp Upstander programming to the JCC’s Camp Chai. Our Museum Education staff will also provide Camp Chai counselors with follow-up activities for the week. This partnership brings two summer camps with similar values and missions together.

unique! How can we include others and learn about their differences?
Campers will also learn about Upstanders in history who accepted
others’ differences!
So close to Independence Day, it is important to learn about American
Upstanders who made a difference in our community. Through fun
activities, campers will explore how they laid the Upstander path for us.
Campers will learn more about respecting others and ourselves
through character building activities. How can we be a good friend?
What do we love about ourselves?
Campers will complete fun activities to encourage expressing gratitude
to others. Being thankful for those around us who support and help us is
an important Upstander skill.
Campers will reflect on their Upstander journey at Camp Chai and what
they learned. They will celebrate not only their newly gained Upstander
skills but also the Upstanders they learned from.
This program is intended for ages 5-18.
