Yu Ying Summer Camp provides an excellent opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture through engaging activities in our immersion environment! Our well rounded-program incorporates outdoor activities, field trips, arts and crafts, academic enrichment and fun activities. Using task-based language teaching method, campers will learn and practice Mandarin Chinese through meaningful activities designed to expand their language skills. Each week's theme is integrated into our daily lesson plan. In addition to Mandarin, we include an option for Accelerated Math and Reading to enhance academic performance. Students are grouped based on their proficiency of Mandarin, from beginner level with no prior knowledge, to advanced native speaker level.
Themes:
Wilderness Adventures (Session 1: June 13-17, week 1*)
Explore the great outdoors! Campers will journey into the vast wilderness of the American West. Come search for the mighty Grizzly Bear on the slopes of Yellowstone, hear the Buffalo herds rumbling across the plains of Montana, and catch the fascinating Salmon Run in the Pacific Northwest. Have fun learning about animal characteristics including their natural habitats, behavior, and features through hands-on themed activities. Activities include making animal crafts, building tents, sharing awesome campfire stories, and learning outdoor skills! The kids will go on an outdoor field trip to experience the wonders of nature. Wonders of China (Session 2: June 20-July 1, week 2&3)
Explore the highlights of China! Embark on a journey through China’s rich history, culture, and natural beauty. Discover amazing achievements of the ancient past, including the construction of the Great Wall f to the mysteries of the Forbidden City. Wander through Beijing’s imperial landmarks, examine ancient treasures in Xi’an, and float down the Yangtze River among the dramatic limestone karst! Along the way, campers will enjoy a view of the gleaming skyscrapers of Shanghai, admire cuddly pandas in Chengdu, before rounding off their travels in the majestic landscapes of rural Yunnan. Campers will receive a colorful overview of the Middle Kingdom, and learn about the country’s unique cultural fabric, diversity, and splendid destinations. Activities include songs, games, Chinese calligraphy, dramatic play, theme parties, and music.
It’s A Jungle Out There! (Session 3: July 4-15, week 4&5, No class on July 4th)
Explore the wonders of the rain forests! Campers will journey into the vast untamed jungle of the Amazon rain forest. Come swim with the majestic pink river dolphin, observe colorful macaws soaring above the tree tops, and search for the mysterious jaguar roaming beneath the forest canopy. Have fun learning about animal characteristics including their natural habitats, behavior, and features, through hands-on themed activities. Kids will encounter animals up close with a funny and mind-boggling show! Field trips include local visits to see their favorite animals.
Motion and Potions! (Session 4: July 18-29, week 6&7)
Behind every discovery is a curious mind! Our Little Inventors will learn to build a variety of interesting projects. We connect science and technology with engaging, hands-on activities designed to stimulate their curiosity. Get things in motion by making motorized dancers, gymnasts, rovers, and mix up potions to experiment with cool chemical reactions. Prepare for a mind-blowing experience in our LEGO® Bricks workshop! Show your dazzling creativity and innovation by designing a favorite animated character, race cars, miniature cities, and more! Learn about great inventors and inventions, and come up with one of your own!
Magic Mind, Magic Hands! (Session 5: August 1-12, week 8&9)
Prepare for hands-on fun! Our campers will use their imagination and hands to create their own masterpiece! Our arts instructor will lead campers to create a variety of fascinating arts & crafts using different materials. Spark their creativity and imagination with hands-on activities including crafts, paper mache, jewelry making, animation,woodworking, painting, drawing, and much more.
