This course is designed to give students an experience leading to better understanding the earth and the processes that have shaped it. Students will go into the field to experience the discovery of minerals as well as observation of the night sky. Weather patterns will be observed and evaluated with an emphasis on severe systems. The course is inquiry-based within a lab experience with the goal of developing critical thinking skills, which are required to interpret Earth’s past and how its processes continue to evolve the planet. The course is divided into four quarters; Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Astronomy. The Midwest region will be highlighted as students will understand their region and how it was shaped. At the conclusion of the course, students will not only be familiar with the vocabulary used in the field, they will be able to complete tasks such as star identification, mineral identification, and weather map interpretation.
