This course is designed to prepare students for competitive speaking and debating, with a focus on the Lincoln-Douglas and Pubic Forum styles of debate. Students will examine issues or questions by looking at both sides equally and weighing the evidence on each side to solve problems, to establish truth or validity, and to understand opposing viewpoints. Participation in Friday and Saturday Speech and Debate competitions in October, November, and December count as the Semester Exam. This course may be taken by sophomores, juniors and seniors that previously had Public Speaking (14) and have an interest in competitive debate, teacher approval required.
