This course leads the student into the “honors” math track which culminates in the AP Calculus Exam and/or the AP Statistics Exam his senior year. The course is designed for the motivated student who has taken an algebra or pre-algebra course in the 8th grade. The student should be proficient with the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division performed on all types of rational numbers. The mathematical concept of the function is the focus of the course. Graphing, modeling, and transforming linear, exponential, and quadratic functions using the TI-84+CE and the DESMOS APP are the key components. Understanding both visually and analytically how functions change leads the student to Calculus. Most of the problems studied in this course use algebra in context (word problems).
