Preparatory Division

The Preparatory Division is designed for the intermediate student with the introduction of pre-pointe and pointe for female students. Students will enjoy the addition of new dance disciplines such as jazz, modern, flamenco, and conditioning. Students should except to spend a minimum of 2 years in each level. Performance opportunities include annual School Performance and The Nutcracker. Acceptance and casting for the production is at the sole discretion of the Artistic Staff of the Kansas City Ballet’s professional company.

Level 3

Level 3 is the first level in our Preparatory Division. The large amount of material and vocabulary explored in this level, with increased expectations, requires more than one year of study. As a result, students should expect to remain in Level 3 for two consecutive years at minimum. Girls will begin to study pre-pointe work which is a practice designed to prepare them for pointe shoes in Level 4. Jazz is also added to their curriculum. Classes for this level meet three times weekly.
