What better way to enjoy the City of Lakes in the summer than in your sailboat on one of Minneapolis picturesque lakes? The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board offers the use of hundreds of storage buoys through a seasonal permit process.
The Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board annually issues permits for 380 buoys on Bde Maka Ska, Lake Harriet & Lake Nokomis. Enrollment opens for buoys beginning January 2, 2023 at 8am and ends April 1, 2023 at 4PM. Buoys are assigned through a lottery drawing.
The lottery picks are based on a priority basis, giving city of Minneapolis residents who were buoy holders in the past year first priority to renew their permits. City residents who meet the deadline for returning their application will be considered before non-residents of the city.
This program is intended for ages 13 to 18.
