The National John Steinbeck Young Authors Program is a unique educational platform designed to foster creativity and enhance writing skills among young writers. We encourage students to let their imaginations run wild and create pieces that truly reflect their individuality and creative process.
The SYA program prioritizes the development of student’s writing skills. Recognizing the challenges faced by educators during the COVID-19 pandemic, I was responsible for strategically transitioning the program to the Google platform. This enhanced accessibility and streamlined communication between the National Steinbeck Center and participating schools. Leveraging Google applications, we deliver the program to middle schools (grades 6-8) digitally, meaning that students, even outside our school district, can participate. We have plans for future expansion to high schools and remote learning environments.
