A summer camp for children facing pediatric cancer and their siblings. Offered at no cost to their families.
Camp Wapiyapi is a FREE summer camp for patients and siblings ages 6-17 years old who are facing pediatric cancer. The inspiration came from University of Colorado medical students in the early 1990s who believed every child deserves an unforgettable camp experience. Seeing how childhood cancer steals a child’s sense of normalcy, they created a nurturing environment that provides respite and an additional circle from which families may draw the strength for continued healing. Kids can let go of cancer and ‘just be kids’ – laughing and playing with others who cherish them just as they are.
“I will never forget the words of comfort our nurse shared the day our son was diagnosed: “It’s going to be okay. He’ll go through treatment, lose his hair, and go to Camp Wapiyapi.”
