Have fun while creating characters that come to life through pictures. Learn to create a real or imagined place through drawing and composition techniques. Create comics frame by frame. Explore storytelling through a sequence of illustrations that move characters through time and space. Take your stories from pencil to ink, black and white to color inspired by the award winning graphic novels “The Invention of Hugo Cabret” by Brian Selznic and “Hey Kiddo” by Jarrett Krosoczka and others. Students gain writing skills as well as the use of picture composition and page layout to communicate their story. The inspiration of authors works from around the world will allow students to find their own voice in telling stories with pictures. This class builds confidence in critical thinking skills, creative expression, problem solving, decision making, communication and collaboration.
