In this workshop, students will build original ceramic artwork - bowl and decorate it in a contemporary way based on traditional Italian technique dating back to the Renaissance period - maiolica.
The first day is Build a Bowl day. No throwing wheel, just hands and soft slab technique to create a bowl that can be used in everyday life. Between classes, the bowl is dried, fired and ready for decoration.
On the second day, the bowl covered by maiolica glaze and painted with underglazes. Every student, with guidance from the instructor, will decorate the bowl with a unique painting fueled by creativity. After the end of the second day, the bowl is fired again and will be ready for pickup in 2-3 days.
Each student will need to bring:
- Graphite pencil
- 2-3 small soft brushes
- Gloves, preferably cotton gloves. Glaze is oil sensitive and students will need to work in gloves when painting over it
All other tools and materials are covered by material fees.
