Seventy percent of success in learning expository writing is having the conceptual
understanding of the relationship of main ideas to subordinate details. This class provides multiple opportunities to develop these skills using hands on methods. Most student's reading comprehension skills improve in this class as they develop a sense of underlying structures of expository texts. We will be doing a lot of color coding, cutting and pasting, and role playing to make this an engaging and very practical class. Students collaborate in break out groups almost daily with the instructor dropping in to check for understanding . This also allows for students to develop personal connections with the teacher and others in the class. Supplies needed for each week will be emailed on the weekend and families can email uploaded work on Fridays for teacher feedback.
