In Fashion Design and Production A, students select existing clothing items from thrift stores to take apart and redesign. Guided through the design process by Melissa Muntz, students create sketches and plans of their ideas, and then bring them to life. In the process, they learn about time management, develop an understanding of how various fabrics and materials behave, and hone problem solving skills as they work towards their final garment. The class concludes with a Fashion Show in which students share their work with friends and family, and receive a friendly and constructive adjudication of their work from a panel of judges. The fashion show for the Fall session will take place in conjunction with the Winter Portfolio Production.
The tuition for this class covers instructional time each week, the cost of machine upkeep, and the cost of sewing notions used in student pieces. Students are responsible for purchasing the base garments and any fabric and other materials used. Fashion Design & Production A is offered both fall and spring semesters.
