Bascom Branch Library is pleased to offer registration for an online introductory Java workshop open to 7th through 12th graders!This weekly 8 session workshop will be held online. Participants will need to have access to a computer or/laptop with internet access. This Java introductory-level course teaches participants the fundamentals of Java, including the concepts of data types, conditional logic, and control flow. Participants will use the Eclipse Java IDE to gain hands-on knowledge of the Java programming language. This course is perfect for teens who want to take AP Computer Science A or just build their coding skills.All sessions will be held online through the Zoom videoconferencing platform, therefore, participants will need a laptop/computer and internet access. Additionally, it will require a software download (please see instructions below).This program meets online on eight consecutive Fridays from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM starting on April 24 and ending on June 12. Participants must pre-register. Participants should not register unless they are able to attend all eight sessions (sessions will not be recorded so live participation is required to learn the material). Registered participants will receive instructions to join the program before the first session. Registered participants who miss the first session may lose their spot in the program.IMPORTANT:Participants will need a laptop or computer and they will need internet access. Additionally, Eclipse 2019 software will need to be downloaded, along with Zoom (an online videoconferencing software).Please follow these steps to download Eclipse and the JDK correctly.1. Download Eclipse 2019.2. Open the Eclipse installer. If you get Eclipse up and running, you already have the JDK and you don't need to follow the next steps. If you get an error message when trying to open Eclipse, you need to do the next few steps.3. Follow the step-by-step instructions here. Under Step 0, click on the How to Install JDK link and do Steps 1-3. Then, try opening the Eclipse installer again.If you have any questions about downloading Eclipse or the class, please feel free to ask via email (nextgencoders2020@gmail.com) before class starts. Additionally, Please download the Zoom app on your computer/laptop and ensure the audio is set up and working properly.
