Morning
Each day from 8:25 am - 12:45 pm, students will attend five forty-five minute periods with a fifteen-minute recess and snack after third period. Before making your selections, please read the class descriptions below. You will indicate your desired class schedule during registration. If you desire academic classes, it is recommended that you choose at least two choices from Enrichment, Arts, and Athletics selections as this balance is essential for optimum performance and enjoyment.
Please Note: English fluency is required of all students attending this program.
Comprehension Boost
- Strengthen comprehension with exercises in mental imagery, sentence analysis, identification of keywords in a sentence and the main points in a paragraph, summarizing, recalling, organizing reading matter into a written visual graphic (recall pattern), and answering varied-level comprehension questions based on reading. Grammar Power
- Study grammar to enhance reading and comprehension and build a foundation for formal writing. Daily Homework
Phonics Power
- Learn and apply the sounds and basic rules that govern English spelling.
Literature Club
- Delve into "classic" literature by reading for enjoyment from a variety of works including poetry, myths, tall tales, fairytales, fables, plays, and novels (Cricket in Times Square, Farmer Boy, Mr. Popper's Penguins) Activities, creative writing, and dramatizations broaden the literary experience in this class. Occasional Homework
Math Mastery
- Build confidence by strengthening the basics. Increase math fact automaticity, knowledge of math concepts, computational procedures, and word problem skills through exercises, drills, games, and activities. Daily Homework

Conversational Spanish (An introduction for beginners)
- Enjoy practicing a second language in a group setting while playing games, singing songs, and doing age-appropriate, language-focused activities. No Homework
Curtain Time!
- Attendance at all four weeks of the summer program is required for this class.

Music Showtime!
- Prepare for a high-energy production of ensemble songs and dances that is sure to delight an audience of family and friends. No Homework

- Energize the day in this class that focuses on athletic skills, physical fitness, and sportsmanship. Enjoy participating in team sports and learning new games. No Homework
Art and Visual Literacy
- Explore a variety of artistic mediums and techniques for self-expression. Learn about creativity, produce art projects, and be introduced to the works of some of the world’s greatest artists. No Homework
Science World
- Experience the world of nature and enjoy science activities, discussion, and hands-on exploration. No Homework
Coding Playground
- Use iPads and entry level block-based programming software such as Hopscotch, Code.org, Scratch Jr., and Swift Playgrounds to solve puzzles and design fun games. No Homework.
Keyboarding/Computer
- Learn correct finger placement. Practice for automaticity, accuracy, and speed. No Homework

Please Note: For students registering for one of the 2-Week Sessions, the classes that are only offered in a particular Session are noted. The rest of the classes are offered in both sessions.
Act On It (Session 1 only)
- Act out, create dramas, enter the world of make believe, and play theater games. Bring a tale to to life by using the tools of the actor: body, voice, and imagination.
Art Attack (Session 2 only)
- Experiment with color, line, shape, texture and other elements of art. Self-expression and inspiration from the teacher will result in works that each student will be proud to share.
Chemistry Creations
- Explore chemical processes and create substances to take home.
Coding and Robotics (Grades 3 & 4 only) (Session 1 only)
- Learn about programming, mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills.
Crafts & Creations
- Using different materials/mediums, create works of art worthy of display.
Creative Writing (Grades 3 & 4 only) (Session 1 only)
- Express your ideas in an imaginative and unique way in this engaging creative writing class. Practice fundamentals of writing and generate new and creative ideas. Use unique structures to focus on fiction writing and poetry and meet other students who share your passion for writing.
Dance (Session 1 only)
- Increase dance basics in technique, strength, posture, flexibility, and rhythm and get introduced to multiple styles of dance. All levels welcome.
Film Making (Session 2 only)
- Develop your film making and technology skills! By creating short films you will exercise your creativity in storytelling and learn videoing and editing techniques.
Healthy Kids (Session 1 only)
- Make delicious smoothies and healthy shakes - - fruit smoothies, banana and chocolate shakes, snow cones, lemonade slushies and more. Participate in yoga.
Leadership in Action
- Practice skills that make a strong leader. Enjoy interactive team-building games that increase confidence, communication, creativity, and collaboration.
Maker Design Lab (Grades 3 & 4 only) (Session 2 only)
- Work in Pinewood's iMaginarium Maker Space on a design project that you will see through from start to finish over the course of the week
Minecraft Masters with LEGO (TWO periods) (Session 2 only)
- Bring Minecraft to life using LEGO® parts! Build a motorized walking Creeper, a terrifying Ghast, and a motorized Minecart! This project-based camp, designed by Play-Well instructors, combines the basic format of our core engineering-themed programs based on the world of Minecraft.
Robotics with Kibo (Grade 2 only) (Session 1 only)
- Learn introductory coding and computational reasoning with Kid friendly Kibo robots.
Splash Bash! (Session 2 only)
- Cool off in the sun with water games, fun, and giant inflatable bounce house and water slides. This is a two period class.
Sports Mania
- Play your favorite sports and outdoor games.
Tech Animation
- Are you a budding cartoonist? Learn cartoon animation techniques on iPads. Take your creativity to new levels using today's latest technology.
You-Build-It Lab (Session 1 only)
- Explore, discover, and create using a variety of building materials. Learn science principles and work with a team to find the best solution to each hands-on, building-project challenge.
Young Chefs
- Prepare recipes and enjoy your creations at the end of each class. Participants will also learn basic kitchen skills, cooking techniques, and safety and sanitation.
3:00pm - 5:00pm
Activity Central
- Choose from a variety of activities such as sports, board games, free play, water fun, and slip & slide. A library time is also available for students who want to complete homework or spend time reading silently.
