Our program has a variety of positions for youth ages 10-17. We’re looking for youth, from diverse backgrounds, who want to be a part of making camp an amazing place for the kids. That basically means helping kids have a fun, safe time. We’ve found that youth leaders play a very central, positive role in a camper’s experience.
CIT stands for Counselor in Training and JC for Junior Counselor. To participate, families pay a discounted fee compared to campers, with JCs getting larger discounts. Some youth leaders go on to hired positions at our camp, starting at age 16 years, and we highly recommend the program as a step toward that possibility. Youth Leaders who have served the community, who know and love the routines and program, are much more likely to be hired at camp than someone who is new to our camp. Shifts vary, but run for 7 or 7.5 hours, with half hour rest or break mid-day.
If you enjoy helping and playing with younger campers, come work at our Pre-K Summer Camp with 3-4 year olds. Pre-K Summer Camp (Papaya Camp) is 3 weeks in August. These young campers are full of energy and ideas, and working with them is a wonderful way to start on a youth leadership path. Youth leaders sign up for 1-3 weeks. CITs are ages 10-13 (yes, CITs can start a year earlier here than at Tilden) and JCs, ages 14-17. All can be new to Monkey Business.
Shifts are CITs:
CIT: 8:30-3:30 or 9:30-4:30
JC: 8:30-4:00 or 9:30-5:00
