Artificial intelligence (AI) is a field of computer science where machines are intelligent and think, work and react like humans. Machine learning ( ML) is a sub-field of AI where computers use data to learn by themselves and improve their performance from experience, without being programmed. Siri recognizes patterns in your questions over time and how you ask them and learns to deliver more customized answers. Credit card fraud detection learns your spending habits and issues alerts. AI and ML are already impacting how we live, work and play in ways we are sometimes not even aware of.
The Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning workshop will introduce students to AI and ML as they learn how to make the computer self-learning and smarter through hands-on, interactive Scratch and Python games and projects. They learn how to create and collect data such as text or images, train the computer to recognize them, and explore how to make the computer better at learning.
Prerequisites:
No programming experience required. Be familiar with using a laptop, file management skills such as saving files, using a browser, and basic keyboarding skills. Ability and discipline to follow instructions in guided tutorials of medium length. Some knowledge of Scratch or Python will help but is not required.
