What You'll Do
Investigate the beautiful balance of your favorite building bricks. Learn the ins and outs of symmetry, then take on a series of symmetrical challenges, from assembling equal-sided figures using a set number of bricks to constructing a harmonious, hole-in-the-middle creation to fashioning the widest shape possible.
Be courageous as you design, build and share the biggest symmetrical Lego structure you can imagine.
What You'll Need
Materials
- 10+ handfuls of Lego bricks (or the whole box!)
- 1 sheet of paper (8.5 x 11″ or larger), pen and tape (see Additional Prep, below)
Technology
- Computer or tablet with speaker and camera
- Internet access
- Zoom application installed
- Signed in with your child’s name
- Unmuted (the instructor will manage class muting/unmuting)
Additional Prep
Use a pen to draw a straight line down the middle of the sheet of paper.
Tape the paper to your child’s work surface (table, floor, etc.) to serve as a center line for their symmetrical structures.
What You'll Take Away
- An understanding of symmetry
- The skills to be courageous and freely share your designs
- The ability to build a slew of symmetrical structures you can use in future creations
