What You'll Do
Make your mark with marker art that goes way beyond simple drawing. Experiment with unconventional ways to put pen to paper, dyeing, tie-dyeing and creating a landscape-inspired reflection print—all with just markers and water.
Be reflective as you explore an array of inventive techniques, noting what works best so you can make your next marker masterpiece even more marvelous.
Note:
Depending on the markers you use, these activities might leave color on your child’s hands. They should clean up with a little scrubbing.
What You'll Need
Materials
- 3 sheets of standard-size white copy paper
- Scissors
- 1 set of washable markers
- 1 damp sponge (wet enough that water drips out when squeezed) in a shallow tray or container
- 1 white plastic bag (6 x 9″ or larger) or gallon-size zipper bag with white paper inside
- 1-2 paper towels
Technology
- Computer or tablet with speaker and camera
- Internet access
- Zoom application installed
- Signed in with your child’s name
- Unmuted (the instructor will manage class muting/unmuting)
Additional Prep
As sponges may drip, set your child up at a table that’s covered in plastic or easy to wipe down. Make sure your computer or tablet is outside the drip zone, too.
What You'll Take Away
- New techniques for making art with markers
- The skills to be reflective and notice what is and isn’t working in your art
- Three original marker masterpieces
