Steel pans offer basic and intermediate instruction to youth and young adults. Participants learn the historical development of the pans, the musical scales used to play the instrument, how to maintain and set up pans for performances. Intermediate and advanced participants are given the opportunity to take part in public performances. This class requires not formal music training. During the class participants learn the scales used to play the pans. This process also teaches participants discipline, commitment, and teamwork. The instructor Benjamin Glasgow is from St Lucia in the Virgin Islands. He has been teaching Bay area youth for many years.
