This course builds on language skills developed in Mandarin Chinese I. The course will systematically review basic grammar and key sentence patterns of Chinese previously studied, provide practice in the appropriate use of idiomatic expressions, and further develop skills in reading and writing Chinese characters. It will also build vocabulary, expand reading comprehension, and encourage extensive conversation in Chinese. Students will experience some authentic course material about Chinese culture and history, and strive to imitate native accent and rhythm to function in daily communication situations. To maintain proficiency of Chinese and have success in the class, students will be expected to actively engage in performance based tasks and assessments.
