HYPE Freedom School, Inc. (HYPE) serves as Houston, Texas' sponsoring organization of the CDF Freedom Schools® program which is the only six-week summer literacy and cultural enrichment program with a key focus on social justice. The CDF Freedom Schools model empowers scholars to excel and believe in their ability to make a difference in themselves, their families, communities, country, and the world with hope, education, and action.
HYPE provides services that enhance the lives of children and build self-efficacy and confidence in their learning abilities. HYPE utilizes strength-based, trauma-informed approaches to not only counter summer learning loss, but to also build and strengthen character qualities that promote resilience and an opportunity to succeed. HYPE’s literacy-based model includes strength-based approaches and Trust-based Relational Intervention (TBRI) for ensuring that programming is trauma-informed, inclusive and specifically focused on youth with social and economic disadvantages. HYPE offers scholars support services, which include literacy-based learning experiences, support groups, community service, mental health counseling, parent/family engagement and referrals to community resources. HYPE’s collaborative efforts include existing partnerships with the Children’s Defense Fund, the Karyn Purvis Institute of Child Development, school districts, universities, faith-based communities, social service and community-based organizations, and volunteers
