At Temple Beth Torah, we respect all of our students as partners in learning. In the Beit Midrash (katan), we seek to instill a love of limmudei kodesh (sacred texts), a connection to Eretz Yisrael, a joyful relationship with the rhythm of Jewish life and the synagogue community, a passion for Hebrew achievement and the desire to form a personal concept of God. As our students grow, we strive to nourish their souls and support their emerging Jewish identities.
Our students in Beit Midrash (katan) flourish, as they immerse themselves in a robust, innovative, program. We begin, each morning, with Mifgash (community gathering). Adults who wish to do so, may join us for Torah study and birchot ha’shachar (morning blessings). Within each mullti-age class mishpacha (family), all students teach, and all teachers learn. Our students learn “al pi darko,” each according to her/his own way. In any given session, talmidim (learners) delight in their opportunity to focus on their preferred subject realm(s). Students relish the privilege of learning in the style most suited to their individual strengths (art, music, poetry research, etc.)
Every aspect of our curriculum is enhanced through a lens of middot (character traits). Our students eagerly pursue their exploration of Torah, tefillah, rituals, luach (calendar), Israel, Jewish history, Ivrit (Hebrew), and God. Talmidim (learners) personalize and deepen their understanding as they encounter every subject through a window of middot. Our unique program emphasizes:
- Yosher (integrity)
- Kavod (respect)
- Hochma (wisdom)
- Seder (order)
- Sakranut (curiosity)
- Simchah (joy)
