Lakas Volleyball was started in 2011 in Union City, California. It was started by former James Logan High School volleyball coach Jerico Abanico. The goal was to bring a club presence to the James Logan and to prepare its athletes for their high school volleyball seasons. The goal quickly shifted to bring athletes from all over to come and experience club volleyball. As the sport of volleyball grows more and more popular, Lakas Volleyball has attracted high school and middle school athletes from all over the bay area. Lakas in the Filipino (Tagalog) language means "Strength" The word not only illustrates the definition of strength but demonstrates the importance of togetherness; strength in unity.
