Students ages 6-9 may join the second half of an Instrument Prep class in which students use individual keyboards to learn the keyboard geography (location of notes on keys), posture & technique and also apply their theory learning to playing simple songs. A private "catch-up" lesson class may be set up separately for students with no previous experience.
Group vs. Private: The first 8-10 weeks of learning most instruments (posture, fingering, technique, navigation, note-reading etc.) is the same for everyone, so it can be successful in a group environment. After that, however, we believe it is best for students to receive one-on-one instruction which can address the individual learning style of each child. This also helps to ensure that they will make enough progress to be inspired and want to keep learning. Private lessons can of course be supplemented with other other forms of group learning, and often at significant discounts.
