This summer, Breathe California of the Bay Area will hold our annual week-long asthma day camp, Camp Superstuff, at the Mayfair Community Center in San Jose. Camp Superstuff is designed for children 6-12 years of age suffering from asthma. Children will learn about how to successfully manage their chronic illness while having fun doing summer camp activities like arts and crafts, swimming, and more!
What Happens at Camp Superstuff?
Camp Superstuff is dedicated to teaching children about how to manage asthma. The camp utilizes interactive teaching methods, such as role-playing activities, games, and open dialogue, to help the children:
- Understand how asthma affects them
- Learn to manage their disease
- Recognize and avoid attack triggers
- Know how/when to take medicine
- Support their peers
Children also engage in traditional activities and excursions. Constant medical supervision allows campers to fully and freely participate in activities such as swimming, hiking, games, skits, arts and crafts, and other exciting adventures. Campers also go on field trips to fun local attractions such as Great America and the Tech Museum.
