This class introduces students to the Saint Francis Robotics Club, including their methods, workspace, and tools. Each day is split in two parts. In the morning, students work in the classroom, taught by graduates of the Robotics Club currently working on degrees in engineering who will teach basic engineering principles, engage students in collaborative and design thinking, and introduce robotics competition tactics. In the Afternoon Practicum, students work in the robotics lab on campus, where they focus on hands-on experiences of designing and building robots. Students are split into 5 teams of 5 students, each with a current or former Robotics Team member as a supervisor, and each team will design and construct a robot to play in a soccer tournament on the last day of Freshman Experience.
If your student is selected for this class, the additional Afternoon Practicum costs $470 for 2 hours per day for the duration of the Freshman Experience, and covers the cost of instructors and materials.
