Early Horizons' Pre-K program is an extension of our preschool program and is designed to give children a strong foundation in the skills that will be needed in Kindergarten. Phonics, sequences, patterns, number concepts, and a focus on fine motor skills are all part of the LifeStart curriculum for Pre-K children. Our Pre-K teachers work together to provide a rich curriculum consisting of science, math and language activities. Our graduates enter Kindergarten armed with all of the tools necessary to guarantee a successful school experience, including strong social and emotional skills.
While we help prepare your child for their Kindergarten year, in Pre-K, we still believe that children learn the most through play. So while there may be more structure in this room compared to the younger classrooms, we allow children to engage in activities that are child-directed and closely supervised by teachers for support. We provide a safe environment where the children are able to build their own understanding of the world, all while helping with with the readiness for Kindergarten.
As part of this program Pre-K children take home a “homework folder” each week. Each child has their own individual folder in which their teacher puts 2-3 activity sheets for them to do at home with their parents. These homework activities reinforce the basic skills and concepts that your child is working on in the classroom. Not only will this process give you a better idea of what your child is doing at school, but it will begin an early relationship between you, your child and the school, that will ultimately be necessary for academic success through their school years. While we provide a homework folder, as part of our philosophy we do not force children to complete the assignments that may be included in their packets.
In the summer our Pre-K children continue with their academic development, but also have a little extra fun in our rich summer program. Summer days are filled with water activities, outdoor story times, music, and even local field trips. It’s no wonder our Pre-K classes are amongst our most popular.
Teachers keep in touch with parents throughout the day using our private facebook page and a posted daily info sheet, as well as in depth verbal communication at the start and end of each day.
