This summer, Camp Unalayee’s 2nd Walkabout program is off on a month-long adventure to the Marble Mountains. This sounds like a fantasy world destination, and in many ways it is. It’s far enough away from camp to make it a very ambitious location for ten-day hiking programs to visit, but close enough to enjoy the journey there and back again in 28-30 days. We will camp at lakes nestled above cascading valleys, delve into the depths of a seldom visited cave, and maybe even climb a peak or two! But the fun doesn’t just begin when we get too the Marble Mountains, the journey itself will be full of sights as well. Between Camp’s basin and the Marbles is the Russians – a small wilderness area jam-packed with stunning lakes. We might not see every single one, but we will surely try!

We’ll be carrying just about everything we need on our backs for this month long journey – aside from two scheduled food drops. This will be a fun, challenging, and empowering experience for campers, and the experience can start before even getting on the bus to camp! Camper input is both encouraged and expected on this Walkabout program. We will have a month of hanging out together, so any ideas to make that as great as it can be for everyone are extremely welcome. Whether it’s a fun trail meal idea or a silly game you want to play with your new best friends, we are very excited to hear campers’ ideas to make this experience theirs!
