Semesters 1 & 2
This course is a survey of major events that have shaped human history from the Renaissance to the Cold War. The students will look at history, religion, science, geography, culture and politics and how they have impacted human society from the early modern period to modern democracies. The students will study the nature of revolutions in thinking, industrialization, democracy and society. Students will be able to describe the key forces that have impacted history, how those forces are still important in our world today. Students will also learn and practice historical thinking and reading skills, such as sourcing, contextualizing, corroborating, and close reading. They will evaluate the trustworthiness of multiple perspectives on historical issues. They learn to make historical claims backed by documentary evidence.
