A 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, began in 1974 and is now serving its third generation of young Kansas City children and their parents and grandparents as a gateway to theatre arts and arts education. The MISSION of Theatre for Young America is to further the educational and emotional growth of young people through the creative art of drama.
In furtherance of this mission TYA provides: (1) thought-provoking plays and musicals year-round at the City Stage in Union Station, (2) touring of early childhood plays and workshops throughout the area, (3) outreach workshops that partner with schools and youth groups to bring their students theatre arts and conflict resolution skills at their locations. Also, (4) TYA provides year-round theatre arts classes and camps at two locations in the greater Kansas City area: Wonderscope Children’s Museum in Shawnee, KS, and Goppert Theatre at Avila University in south Kansas City, Missouri.
