Overview of the curriculum for Kindergarten at Fairmont Private School of Fresno
Kindergarten at Fairmont Private School of Fresno, is a program that places the child at the center of all learning experiences. The students are given opportunities to explore, inquire, observe, share ideas, and to be creative thinkers. The goals for our kindergarten program are based on three components:

The kindergarten program at Fairmont Private School of Fresno is aligned to the California State Standards. All components and learning experiences are carefully designed to address individual levels, interests, and abilities of the child.
The kindergarten curriculum provides a broad base curriculum which includes Language Arts and Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Visual and Performing Arts, History and Social Sciences, Spanish Language, Physical and Fine Motor Skills, and Social Emotional Development. The curriculum concepts are outlined below.
Language Arts and Literacy
In our kindergarten, students make great strides in developing foundational skills and learning how to read. These skills include:

The kindergarten student is given opportunities to engage in mathematical tasks and activities. The math curriculum engages the child in hands on activities, movement, and exploration to learn the following concepts:

Science
The science program is centered around everyday events in nature and within the child’s life. Students engage in exploration and problem solving to learn about their environment. Our kindergarten science program focuses on:

Visual and Performing Arts
We believe the visual and performing arts are a vital part of a well rounded educational program. The kindergarten students explore the arts through dance, music, theatre, and visual arts. Through each media students learn through active experiences, presentations,
cutting, pasting, painting, and clay.
History and Social Sciences
The kindergarten History and Social Studies program introduces the children to their world of today and the world of long ago. Engaging experiences and stories allows the children to compare and contrast extraordinary people and cultures, Through engaging activities the children are introduced to the concepts of courage, self control, justice, heroism, leadership, deliberation, and individual responsibility. The activities also provide opportunities to give back to their community.
Spanish Language
The focus of our Spanish Program is to provide the children with a firm foundation of the Spanish language through listening and speaking activities. Lessons incorporate singing, dancing, games, and cultural experiences. Spanish lessons are also integrated with classroom curriculum concepts.
Physical Education
The kindergarten physical education program offers the children opportunities to practice and refine their gross motor skills through daily games, exercises, and outside activities. The program also focuses on the importance of a healthy life-style.
Fine Motor Skills
The kindergarten children will continue to improve their cutting skills, practice the correct way to hold a pencil, crayons and markers. Through daily use of manipulatives, the children will enhance their development of small motor coordination, problem solving, following directions and taking care of their own materials.
Social and Emotional Development
At Fairmont Private School, we encourage and talk with the children about peer relationships, sharing, problem solving, cooperating with one another, and staying with a task from start to finish. As “good thinkers” the children’s positive behavior and attitude will be praised.
