This short course will be 5 classes, 2 hours each class. Out of several topics that are included in the SAT
Chemistry test, we will focus on 4 major topics:
These 4 topics cover about 70% of all the topics that are included in SAT Chem Test. In each of the first 4 classes, Dr. Ho will spend the first 45 min to 1 hours to review one of these major topics. For the remaining time of the class, students will do the SAT questions that relate to that topic, so that the students will be familiar with the way SAT Chem asks questions.
In the 5th class, we will mimic the actual SAT Chemistry Test. The SAT Chemistry Test will be 1 hours long, for 58 questions.
I will email a SAT Chemistry Test and the answer sheet to each student at the beginning of that class, and ask the student to print them out, but do not start the test. Only when I give the signal (online), the students will start the test. At the end of 60 min, each student will email me back the answer sheet. I will correct their answers and email back their test results with correct answers.
The purpose of these 5 classes of SAT Chem should prepare the students on the topics that we went over and gives the students a chance to practice taking the SAT Chem test.
In our SAT II Chemistry preparation classes, there are 5 classes and each class is 2 hours. 4 of these 5 classes will be topic review and related SAT questions, and the last class will mimic the SAT Chemistry test. In each of the 4 topic review classes, Dr. Ho will spend 1 hour reviewing a particular topic. In the second half of these classes, he will present relevant SAT prompts related to that topic for students to work on. This allocated time will help the student become familiar with how SAT questions are presented as well as the typical answers that the SAT test provides for these questions. The 4 topic review classes will be based on topics that are more frequently seen on the SAT II Chem Test. During the last class, students will use the first hour to take a practice exam – 60 minutes for 85 questions, just as the real SAT II Chemistry test would be. Students will be asked to print this test out beforehand but open and start the exam at the same time as the rest of the class. Exam answer sheets will be scanned back to Dr. Ho, who will quickly grade the exam. The remainder of class will be going over the most common incorrect questions. This 5 sections SAT II Chem Preparation is a condensed version of the 10 SAT Preparation sections. As a result, students will be highly advised to self study any material covered on the SAT II Chem test that will not be studied in class if needed.
In the 10 SAT II Chemistry Preparation sections, 8 classes will be spent reviewing different topics. Students will spend the last 2 classes to practice the SAT test to mimic the actual SAT Test.
