About

Teatro Visión is a Chicano/Latino theater company with a mission to celebrate culture, nurture community, and inspire vision through engagement, education, and performance. Our work is nationally recognized for creating an empowering sense of identity, building respect and understanding, and exploring the social and psychological experiences of Latinos. Because we are committed to a vision infused by the voices and experiences of our community, our primary purpose is to encourage and inspire our audiences and program participants to take leadership to improve their quality of life.

Since 1984, Teatro Visión has commissioned, developed, and produced over 60 plays for an audience of more than 140,000 patrons. These works include the World Premiere production of Silvia Gonzalez’s El Vagon (Boxcar), which won the 2004 Repertorio Español’s NuestraVoces national playwriting competition, and the 2011 West Coast Premiere of Rudolfo Anaya’s Bless Me, Ultima. We regularly provide free or low-cost performances via partnerships with more than 100 local schools and organizations. An open pricing structure and bilingual presentations ensure that our work remains accessible to a broad spectrum of our community. Our education programming encourages youths to strengthen their critical thinking, self-confidence, communication, and problem-solving skills.
