Our Math and Science Campers will participate in group hands-on math and science activities. There is an example of previous activities below. The math curriculum and activities have not been set for summer camp 2020.
Example:
This camp will feature kitchen science with fractions and ratios in the first week. The second week will include calculating velocity with objects such as paper airplanes. During the afternoons, students will test their creations in the kitchen or in the park. Campers will also go on excursions. Please come join us for one of our weeks of exploration and excitement!
Week 1: Kitchen Chemistry - Understanding the Math and Science Behind Cooking
Each day campers begin their cooking journey in the classroom, where they will be covering the a variety of topics. Then campers will move into the kitchen to experiment with the recipe of the day. Our campers’ afternoons will be filled with fun outdoor activities and excursions. Campers will learn the following concepts:
Ratios and Fractions
Measurements, Conversions, and Volume
Changes in Temperature and States of Matter
Chemical Changes vs. Physical Changes
Using the Scientific Method to Test and Critique Recipes.
Week 2: Motion/Flight
During week two, campers will build objects that roll, move, and fly. Campers will create box cars, zipline-straw flyers, paper airplanes, kites, and rockets. Using these inventions, they will draw conclusions about movement and test their ideas. Campers will learn the following concepts:
Measuring Distance: Standard Units vs. Metric Units
Calculating Velocity
Newton’s Laws of Motion
Kinetic and Potential Energy
Using the Scientific Method to Hypothesize, Test, and Modify Inventions
