Those who take part in an American Sign Language (ASL) class at Break the Barriers will find that learning a second language can be fun! ASL allows hearing individuals to be challenged intellectually, while enjoying themselves at the same time. Students can gain the confidence to engage and interact with someone who is deaf by developing a vocabulary of signs, proper ASL sentence structure, and an appreciation for the Deaf Culture. Classes at Break the Barriers are offered at various levels from beginning to intermediate, for both adults and children. With the knowledge of ASL, the language barrier between hearing and deaf communities can be broken!

Scholarship applications are available at the front office and are approved on a case by case basis based on need and funding available. As the program is completely funded by private donations students who are on a scholarship and miss two consecutive classes will be dropped if the office has not been notified and the scholarship will then be applied to another student. All scholarship recipients are kept confidential.
