Build and Program Robotic Vehicles and Creatures: Design, build, and program robots that interact with you, perform complex tasks, and respond to changes in the environment. In the morning, we'll use LEGO® Mindstorms® EV3 motors, sensors, gears, and other technical components to make versions of real-world robots. Projects include a hotel "botler" that can be programmed to bring items to guests, a robot floor sweeper, a line-follower and an animatronic monkey face. Learn the design and programming elements used in these robot types.
Advancing Programming with The Arduino mBot: Enhance your robotics skills with MakeBlock's mBot programmable robot. You will use software similar to Scratch to create code with blocks to control the mBot. You'll learn to create and animate the bot's eyes through an LED matrix panel, as well as how to program obstacle avoidance and movement to correspond to to keyboard or remote control commands. The mBot is an Arduino-microcontroller robot. Your block code commands are translated into the Arduino-C language which you can view, and which control the bot. We'll have lots of team games with the bot to further your learning.
Team Challenges: We'll end the week with team collaboration on First LEGO League-inspired challenges. You'll work in a group to design and customize an EV3 robot to perform a series of tasks, learning teamwork and problem-solving in the process.
